Programs

March 15-March 18: Heart of the Novel 2013; Founders Workshop, Part I of II.  In this two part novel-writing workshop, writers will identify their character, Voice, and story, and, having received editorial comment, will spin the narrative they discover into a first draft to be considered at the Part II workshop October 20-23. (In Part I: Concentration on creating a first chapter, capturing a powerful Voice and creating a break-out scene.) Workshop 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day; The Barn, Boyds Mills, Honesdale, Pa.

April 20: Heart of Fantasy Workshop, Reunion I; home of Patricia Lee Gauch, Hyde Park, N.Y.; 9 a.m. to noon; 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Getting closer.

June 16-June 22: Masters Class, Writing Fiction for Children and Young Adults.  Workshop leaders: Patricia Lee Gauch and National Book Award Winner Kathryn Erskine, New York agents, a major bookseller,  and special guest editors and award-winning authors; The Barn, Boyds Mills, Honesdale, Pa. Major lectures, hands-on seminars, and one-on-one manuscript sessions with editors. “An absolutely unforgettable writing week,” wrote one conferee about last year’s Chautauqua-like program.

October 9: The Magic of Making a Picture Book with artist Ed Young, art director Nanette Stevenson celebrating 75th anniversary of Caldecott Medal; Manhattanville College Library, Purchase, N.Y.; 4:30 p.m.

October 20-23: Heart of the Novel 2013; Founders Workshop, Part II of II.

November 8 – 10: Northwest Writers SCBWI Retreat; The Inn at Port Ludlow, Washington. “Going Far Enough” and workshops;  Contact Jolie Stekley at cuppajolie@gmail.com for reservation.
